Looking Back

So, yeah, I havent made a journal entry for months upon months but Ive been looking back on all my old journal entries all I can say is wow, just wow. Its crazy, I can view my transformation of political ideals and also religious ideas. It was around 14 months ago that I really stopped believing in god and Christianity and its just so strange viewing older journal entries where Im talking about giving some of my life over to god. Who would have seen that coming? When I used to be a Christian I always thought there was some loving father figure looking out for all things I did and for my well being. When things went bad I thought I hadn't done enough for god, when things went well for me, I thanked god. Within religion you learn to not take personal responsibility for your actions.

Almost 2 years ago I changed majors to geology and learned much more than I previously had about evolution and science. Religion and science do not bode well together and that's why the religious have so much of a problem with evolution. They know that if evolution is true than that disproves the Christian religion. In Genesis it clearly states that plants were made before the sun was and that the Earth was created before the sun and stars. Clearly, if you know anything about science than you know the Earth was not around before the rest of the universe. I have always believed in god and then one day I sat down to read Genesis and after that happened, I no longer believed. I tried really really hard because knowing that when you die and thats it, well... that kinda sucks. If I had it my way, I would love for there to be a heaven and a loving god but after reading the bible, its clear that the Christian god is neither loving nor caring. People believe in heaven for one reason and that reason is the fear of death. Its comforting to believe that a heaven is awaiting you. But alas, none of it is true unfortunately.

One of the main things that I have learned to accept since becoming an atheist is that this is the only life we have and we better live life to its fullest. You better care for those around you and try and make a difference in the world, however small that difference may be. Once you realize that this is it and that only you are in control of your life than everything starts to make a lot more sense. Since only you are in control of your life than you can no longer blame god for your problems but rather try and improve upon them yourself.

Maybe Ill start writing some journals again since I havent been doing it all as of late. Its a good way to get all my thoughts in order. I promise they wont all be about religion, I will add some variety :)
